INCI : Caprylhydroxyamic Acid Spectrastat CHA is a multifunctional ingredient that allows formulators to use hurdle technology to create self-preserving formulations. As opposed to traditional methods of preservation, hurdle technology is a formulation approach whereby combinations of ingredients and other aspects of formulation are used along with good manufacturing principles to control microbial growth. Spectrastat CHA is a chelating agent that aids in the control of microbial growth. A key benefit of Spectrastat CHA is that it is efficacious over a wide pH range (pH 4-8) and specifically advantageous over other organic acids due to its high efficacy at neutral pH. Spectrastat CHA is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients. It can interact with residual iron found in some clay-type compounds (e.g., bentonite, silicates, etc.). Typical use level is 0.10% w/w to 0.22% w/w.
